Most classes begin the day with "Circle time."
This is when children sit together with their teacher as a group and talk about the day ahead.
Helpers are chosen for different tasks in the classroom.
Guidelines for cooperative play are discussed.
Infants, 1 year olds and younger 2 year olds (Cubs, Teddies & Ponies) We combine the research-based "Creative Curriculum" with our own special blend of proven educational activities.
Infants and toddlers are given the very best of care with immediate response to every need and just the right amount of stimulation.
They are given every opportunity and encouragement to practice newly acquired skills, learning at their own pace with kind, patient, and loving guidance.
They are offered a wide range of activities including:
Older 2, 3 and 4 year olds (Ponies, Dolphins, Pandas, and Penguins) We encourage self-help skills. Teachers prepare the environment for your child to learn through active exploration. The teachers are always there to help, guide, and encourage.
Pre-Kindergarten classrooms (VPK) (Kangaroos, Pelicans, Panthers, Manatees, Beavers and Zebras) We use the "Early Childhood Express" curriculum.
This research-based, thematic curriculum is very strong in its literacy and math components giving your child very sound preparation for Kindergarten.
Children leaving us to go to Kindergarten are very well prepared. Our VPK Programs offer a variety of learning opportunities.
Children in the VPK classes are taken on the occasional field trip to places of interest such as the local fire station.
This helps tremendously in developing community awareness.
We prepare the children before each trip to make the experience more rewarding and enjoyable.
You will see on the classroom schedules that there is time allocated for "Learning Centers."
Classrooms at All Aboard are set up with different activity areas:
Children choose an area where they wish to play and may freely move on to another area whenever they wish, after they have put away the equipment they were using.
Because the children make the choice of activity themselves, they will be enthusiastic and, therefore, open to a wealth of learning experiences as they play.
Teachers facilitate children’s play during this time and help children develop in all the domains addressed in the "Florida State Performance Standards." These are:
This is a time when a small group of children get together with their teacher for a group learning experience.
This could be anything from a science project to a Play Dough making session to a sorting and counting activity.
This will often be related to the Theme of the Week. During this time, a specific area of development is targeted and children are closely observed to enable the teacher to identify each individual child’s area of need.
In addition to the above activities, computer time, music and movement, reading, and outdoor play are all planned into the daily schedule.
Classical music has been an important part of our curriculum for years.
Brain research has shown that it can actually assist in later academic success.
